I was just browsing the BBC news site and came across this discussion of what colour a dress in a photo is. Simple you'd think but the discussion started when a couple disagreed completely about the colour & asked friends to give their opinion. It seems people see either one of two very different combinations, and my husband and I are one in each camp too - with no doubt on either of our parts as to what we see and unable conversation exchange to see the other's "colours".

And Zoe's found somewhere "the photo" conversation exchange next to "a picture of the dress" which is obviously also a photo but not THE photo and I see the two as completely different colours which I guess makes me in the "wrong" camp. Will try & sort a link for that if I can after I've dished up tea!
Re: Really interesting discussion on colour

As for the original pic, somehow (call me a cynic) I cannot see how anyone can "see" that as the same as the pic in the advert for the dress...... the emperor's new clothes will always sell clothes?
According to some info on The Independent some of it is about how many rods and how many cones you actually have in your eyes - colour blind people have different ratios than most of us but everyone conversation exchange has different numbers. The other variation is how your brain processes light reflected conversation exchange and absorbed to determine colours.
Mmmm. I know about colour blindness.... and I know that men tend towards it much more than women. However, both Mr Mac and I saw the original dress in the original colours and the advert in the new, darker colours. What does that mean?!!!

For the most part I have seen white and gold but today I saw it black and blue and thought the pc had been switched and now see it as white and gold. Very bizarre, nice to se the news has something other than violence and other evil deeds for a change
